All full-time undergraduate students are members of the Associated Students of the University of Portland (ASUP), founded in its current form in 1949. ASUP exists to provide an organization through which the needs and interests of students can be represented, by which extracurricular activities can be developed, and as a means to foster the recognition of students' rights and responsibilities. The Executive Board officers are elected in the spring semester for the next school year. As a group, the Executive Board serves as the leadership team for the student body. The President serves as the formal voice for the students and leads the Executive Board; the Vice President serves as the President of the Student Senate; the Secretary records official minutes and chairs the Elections Committee; the Treasurer is responsible for all financial transactions and oversees the budgeting process; and the CPB director oversees the Campus Program Board.

ASUP Student Senate

Students representing various student constituencies comprise the Student Senate, which is a legislative body of ASUP. Senators representing the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes, the schools/CAS, international students, off-campus students, residence halls and adult students are elected in the early fall.When openings occur due to resignations or for other reasons between elections, students representative of the open seat may petition to fill it until the next election for that seat. The Senate votes on the allocation of the student government fee to fund recognized clubs, student government projects and other UP activities that benefit students as well as discusses and works on issues of importance to students.

Campus Program Board

This group is responsible for coordinating a program of social, cultural, educational events for the undergraduate student body. Funding for the events is provided by the ASUP Student Senate from the student government fee paid by all full-time undergraduates. Student volunteers serve as committee chairs and members in such areas as films, traditional events, speakers, coffeehouse, cultural events, and more.

ADvantage

The ADvantage services include designing and producing high quality posters, flyers, and table tents to publicize campus event, and fees are low. Vasant Vuppuluri

This service provides limited transportation to and from the airport as well as the train and bus stations for Fall break (October), Thanksgiving Break (November), semester break in the winter (December), Spring Break (March), and Easter (April). Students may sign-up for Pilot Express in the Office of Student Activities in St. Mary's Student Center. Sign-ups begins approximately two weeks before the school holiday. The Pilot Express is coordinated by a student director who supervises the student drivers and who reports to the ASUP president. Because this is a student-operated service, the shuttle does not operate at the beginning or end of the academic year. Details about the Pilot Express may be found on the Pilot Express webpage.

Espresso UP

Frequently, ASUP provides a free “latte break” on Wednesday and Friday evenings in St. Mary’s Lounge, sometimes accompanied by an informal activity or informal entertainment. Espresso UP is coordinated by a student director who reports to the Office of Student Activities and the ASUP president. This individual also supervises a student staff of baristas.
