Admissions: Lauren Tolcher
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years I see myself as having graduated from UP and possibly studying at a top Medical School preparing to become a doctor.
Favorite core class? My favorite core class so far was Intro to English Literature. I had such an intelligent, enthusiastic, and fun professor who made the class extremely interesting and fun to attend. We read several interesting pieces of Literature that I really enjoyed.
Favorite professor and why?Dr. Downs is my favorite UP professor! He is such an intelligent and enthusiastic professor and made his class extremely engaging and enjoyable. He made sure to make everything we learned applicable to our everyday lives.
Favorite Portland landmark? My favorite Portland area destination is Angel's Rest a the Columbia River Gorge. I love hiking and exploring nature and the top of Angel's Rest is the most beautiful view I have ever seen.
Hidden talent?I don't have many hidden talents other than I can (kind of) play the guitar and ukulele.
Activities or clubs you are involved with or other leadership positions?Student Ambassador, Love Your Melon Crew Secretary, Friends of Trees, Volunteer Student Leader at local parish Youth Group, Voice for Life
What is a Pilot?A pilot is a kind-hearted, genuine, compassionate, friendly, confident, intelligent, and determined individual who strives to make a difference in the lives of others and in the world. All the students, faculty, staff, and anyone in the University of Portland community is a pilot!
Favorite Pilots After Dark event? My favorite Pilots After Dark event was when Kris Orlowski came to campus and performed a concert for us in the academic quad. I had never heard of him and his band before and loved their music! It was so much fun having this on campus private concert and then going to the Pilot House after to hear them play more acoustic covers and answer questions.
Why did you decide to enroll at University of Portland?I decided to enroll at UP because from the moment I walked on campus to visit, it just felt like home. The campus was so beautiful and the environment was so welcoming. All of the people were so friendly and I just knew I could picture myself here. UP had everything that I was looking for in a school with its small size, strong academic programs, Catholic identity, and much more.
