Alumni: Cultural Immersion & Coffee in Brazil
You can travel to Brazil as a tourist or you can experience Brazil as a Brazilian with Augusto Carneiro '01 as your guide. Augusto is a native Brazilian who currently resides in Portland where he runs Nossa Familia Coffee. The main business of Nossa Familia is importing coffee from Augusto's family farm and sharing the breathtaking beauty of Brazil.
On this tour, Augusto will personally guide you through his family's coffee fields, through tropical forests and amazing, lush valleys in the hilly region where his family settled over 120 years ago. As the tour begins, you'll stay in a simple, somewhat rustic hotel very near Augusto's grandparents' farm house, just outside the city of Pocos de Caldas (a few hours drive from Sao Paulo).
This trip will be filled with cultural explorations, regional culinary delights, a guided jungle hike (we may even see some monkeys), a chance to experience "hands-on" coffee harvesting, and visits to Augusto's family farm, a local artist's studio, an exotic tropical bird sanctuary, and a Roman style bath house, all while including plenty of time for relaxation. Enjoy immersion into the local culture, always beautiful and distinctly Brazilian.
Arrangements can be made to extend your stay and visit Rio and/or Sao Paulo. For a detailed itinerary and more information click here.
