After spending parts of the last four decades as both an enlisted member of the Marine Corps Reserve, and enlisted and officer service in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve, I retired in July 2006. Even as a Reservist, the military has allowed me to travel the globe...Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Japan, and Hawaii.
I worked for a major company in the electrical power generation business for three years before returning to the military as a temporary civilian contractor with the Army ROTC program at Oregon State University in February 2009. In January 2010 I had the good fortune of moving to the Army ROTC program at the University of Portland as permanent cadre.
I was born in Detroit, grew up in Pittsburgh, and have literally lived all over North America during my civilian career. My wife Candy (an Oregon native) and I moved back to Oregon in 2008 along with another Oregon native, Benny (he's the dachshund on the right in the photo). Benny passed away in October 2011 just shy of his 16th birthday, but because of him we assist Oregon Dog Rescue, the Oregon Humane Society, and several dachshund rescue groups.
My hobbies include ice hockey (Let's Go Pens!), the Pittsburgh Steelers, European soccer, aviation and space exploration, current events and foreign languages (German, Russian, and Japanese).
