Minor
: Chemistry
Hometown : Kahului, Maui
Activities : Society of Women Engineers, Hawaii Club
Favorite Professor : Probably Dr. Aziz Inan. He is just crazy fun. I’m so bummed I won’t be in one of his classes again. Unfortunately for me, he teaches electrical engineering courses and I’m an ME.
Favorite Class : All my engineering courses have pretty much been on an even keel for me. Each one is challenging but stimulating at the same time.
Favorite Commons Meal : Mufalettas (I think that’s how it’s spell it): a yummy combination of toasted ciabatta bread under a layer of cheese, onions, tomatoes and cold cut ham. Totally underappreciated but super delicious.
Why I Chose UP : I knew I wanted to go into engineering and UP offers a curriculum that could get me a degree in 4 years, a huge plus considering other schools where it would be difficult to enroll in the classes I would need to graduate. My brother who was an alumnus of UP only had positive things to say about his experience which reassured any concerns I had about campus life. Then UP offered me an awesome financial aid package that I couldn’t say no to.
Favorite Thing About UP : There is a genuinely friendly atmosphere about this place. I’ve always thought that Portland and Hawaii could be sisters because the people seem to carry the same spirit of “aloha”. It doesn’t hurt that UP is in the wonderful state of Oregon which is sales tax free!
Advice for Prospective Students : Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there when you come to college. Join clubs, sign up for activities, and get to know your classmates. It’s an easy way to make friends and make your college years a very fulfilling experience. However, it’s important to remember to try and stay focused on your schoolwork because it’s very easy to get distracted with so much going on around you.
