Fall Break at City of Rocks

After much planning and frequent checking of the weather report, we finally made it to City of Rocks in Southern Idaho. A week of climbing was just what we needed for a nice break from the semester. In fact, I’d say it’s one of the advantages of our semester system here – even though we don’t get every holiday (like labor day) we more than make up for it with a week-long fall and spring break half way through each semester. But enough about that, it’s all about what you do with the time off!

It did rain on us, but only the first evening so we were able to climb for four of our five days there. It was a quick (relatively) ten hour drive, although Mark wanted to explore alternative transportation on the way back.

Although cold, we did manage to build a fire and stay pretty warm with many layers and warm beverages.

All in all, it was a beautiful place and I can’t wait to go back. Having beautiful places like this is a great advantage of school in the Northwest!

Why I Chose UP : The excellent biology program, small class sizes, and perfect location just outside of Portland’s city center

Favorite Thing About UP : The community feel. I have great relationships with many of my professors and peers. UP has also provided many amazing opportunities outside of the academic realm.

Advice for Prospective Students : Visit campus! Find the university with the right fit – it will make the next four years much more worthwhile. Students tend to be more involved and get more from their education when they’re happy!
