Campus Ministry: The Bells of the Univeristy of Portland
Fourteen bells rest in the tower, ranging in size from 77 to 1,400 pounds. With a different tone, each bell seemingly has its own personality; indeed, each was blessed in honor of a different saint. These sacred bells ring out the good news of God’s loving presence among us and they echo Mary’s thanksgiving when she sang, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my savior.”
Each bell was sponsored by a donor to the university and proceeds will be used towards an endowment fund for Campus Ministry.
