The University of Portland is home to some of the best soccer players in the world and Pilot fans are some of the most passionate—the 40,841 fans who saw a women’s soccer game last season set an NCAA record for season attendance (men’s or women’s). It’s only natural that the Pilots’ home field is also among the best in the country. The only thing missing: a spectator facility to match.

The Clive Charles Soccer Complex, dreamed into being as a way to honor the legacy of the Pilots’ late legendary coach, seeks to enhance Merlo Field and the fans’ experience by adding new ticket booths and a wider entry gate, a wider concourse for fan mingling, improved concession areas and restrooms in the complex, and the Clive Charles Plaza, a permanent memorial to the person who helped bring Pilot soccer into the national spotlight.
