Franz Center: Mentorship
The Franz Center offers a mentorship program that occurs throughout the school year. Mentors are members of the Greater Portland community that provide 30- minute appointments for students with venture plan related questions in their area of expertise. Chris Corrado '82
Taylor Bergmann is a 2012 University of Portland graduate and E-Scholar. A co-founder and the creative director at Lagom he hopes to use people’s stories to incite change.
Taylor has been involved in leading service learning immersions around Civil Rights, Native American culture, and social enterprise. He is currently serving as a St. Andre Fellow at Saint Andre Bessette Parish leading service learning immersions for high school and college students while working with those experiencing houselessness.
Taylor's interests are in sustainable community development while qualitatively improving education and lifelong learning across borders and socio economic barriers.
Craig is the Small Business Banking Manager for Oregon & Southwest Washington. He leads a team of 15 Small Business Bankers who work with approximately 60 banking centers, covering a territory that includes 60,000 priority small business clients and prospects.
Craig serves on the Board of Trustees for the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette. He’s also on the Advisory Board of the University of Portland’s Center For Entrepreneurship (CFE), as well as a Master Mentor for the CFE. Craig earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Portland and lives in Lake Oswego, OR with his wife and three daughters.
Michael graduated with a BS in 1971 from Western Oregon University. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Portland in 1974.
Lynn is Portland Seed Fund's Associate. A former Entrepreneur Scholar herself, Lynn graduated from the University of Portland, Cum Laude with a BBA in Global Business, focusing on Operations and Technology Management; and French Studies.
She enjoys giving back to the community and mentors business school students at the University of Portland and provides community support when she can for Team Rubicon, a non-profit uniting the skills and experiences of military veterans with medical professionals to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
Bob has extensive financial management experience in manufacturing, software and services industries with a background that includes achievements in Fortune 500 and development-stage organizations.
In the past, Bob has been CFO for several technology start-ups with responsibility for financial modeling, business planning, operations and human resources. Most recently, he recently served as Vice President – Finance for Tripwire, a successful Portland-based software security firm.
Bob received his BS in Accounting from the University of San Francisco and his MBA from Golden Gate University.
Tommy is a 2011 University of Portland (UP) MBA graduate and a former 2009 Entrepreneur Scholar. He is a Co-founder and Managing Director of Nzumbe, a local biotech start-up specializing in epigenetic research services. The company was launched in 2012 thanks to funding from the UP 100K Business Plan Competition and Launchpad Fund. He is also currently an Agreements Officer at OHSU in the office of Technology Transfer and Business Development, where he negotiates agreements and helps seek out research funding to bridge the gap between discovery and commercialization.
Reid is a graduate from the University of Southern California's entrepreneur program- a top 5 program and the first of its kind to be established in the US. Reid received the 2011 award for the Best Business Plan and was the runner up for the 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year award based on launching his startup, Rybos Nutrition.
Reid is an entrepreneur at heart and highly active in the LA & Portland startup scene. Reid has been involved with various start ups from emerging medical technologies to sports, health and fitness products typically in a consulting role (formation & execution of business plans, financials, & fundraising). In 2012 Reid received USC Steven's Center for Innovation award for his work with a local startup.
Currently, Reid is the first employee of an early stage technology company called Fanlime. Fanlime is a platform that allows professional athletes to endorse their favorite products & share their recommendations with fans, driving revenue from fan purchases.
Eric V. Pozzo
Eric V. Pozzo is currently a manager of the Oregon Angel Fund, an early stage investment fund focused on generating exceptional returns by harnessing a disciplined, collaborative investment approach.
Prior to a recent position as CFO/COO of CSI Digital (wholesale IPTV services), Eric was Vice President of Operations for First Silicon Solutions, Inc., an instrumentation company he helped found in 1998. Eric came to Oregon in 1980 to work for Intel. He left in 1982 to help found, as President, a pioneering PC-based instrumentation company, Microcosm, Inc., and to pursue a career of entrepreneurship. He’s served in senior management roles in a number of start-ups including President of Creative Multimedia Corporation, an exciting company during the CD-ROM publishing boom.
Eric received his ScB in Biology from Brown University in 1975 and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business in 1980.
Bradley Sander’s entrepreneurial spirit and strategic business strengths stem from his extensive career in the wireless and telecommunications industry, with employers such as Disney Interactive Media Group, Cingular Wireless, McCaw Communications and AT&T.
In addition to Bradley’s breadth of business experience, he participates in several Technology Advisory Boards: Portland State University Tech Transfer Advisor, PhD Program, Dept of Engineering & Technology Management; University of Portland Launch Pad & Commercialization Advisor; Charter Member & Co-Chair Mentoring Program of TiE Oregon; and active member in the Oregon Entrepreneurship Network.
Bradley received his Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University and completed an intensive first-class Business Management program at the London School of Business.
Lucas Zettle is a University of Portland graduate who is passionate about entrepreneurship and business development. Currently, Lucas is a Revenue Manager for Webtrends, a marketing intelligence firm.
Prior to graduating and starting his career, Lucas was a student at UP and was actively involved in various businesses, Spanish and recreation activities. He participated in the Entrepreneur Scholars program during his senior year at UP and finished second in the annual $16K Business Plan Competition. Lucas is also the founder of Custom Curb Caps, producers of metal covers for concrete parking bumpers to extend their life and increase aesthetic appeal.
Lucas received his B.B.A. in Accounting and Spanish from the University of Portland in 2010 and continues to be involved in the Pilot community.
Sister Adele Marie Altenhofen
Sister Adele Marie Altenhofen is president of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) Ministries Corporation. She joined the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon in 1982 after completing her undergraduate studies in mathematics and Spanish at the University of Portland, earning maxima cum laude honors, while representing the University of Portland on the basketball court. Sister Adele Marie went on to earn master’s degrees in teaching and educational administration. She ministered as an educator in Spokane, Washington, and in Stayton and Beaverton, Oregon. She served as a school administrator in Beaverton and Astoria, Oregon. As president, Sister Adele Marie leads and oversees all management, fiscal, programmatic, and planning activities of the SSMO Ministries Corporation in a manner consistent with the Sisters’ charism, mission, vision, and values.
Chris Corrado '82
Chris Corrado is president and CEO of Environments, which he started with partners in 1987 under the name Corporate Environments. Currently the sole owner with 25 employees, Corrado’s company is partnered with the leading sustainable, modular furniture and architectural products manufacturer’s in the industry and has set the stage for continued aggressive growth. As the key distribution partner for Knoll and DIRTT in Oregon and SW Washington, Environments is responding to a strong demand for sustainably built and furnished interiors and the products and materials that address that end. For three years in a row, Environments was named one of the Top 100 Green Companies to Work for in Oregon. Corrado serves on a number of boards including Catholic Charities of Oregon, Providence St Vincent’s Medical Foundation, Mt Angel Abbey Foundation and is an advisor to the Dean of the Pamplin School of Business at the University of Portland.
In 2002, Cathy joined Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette as a Regional Manager. With over 30 years of business leadership, including multi-site retail management, Cathy has played an integral role in the successful opening and operation of new retail stores, boutiques and Vocational Services programs. As Director of Operations and Marketing Services, Cathy oversees 44 Retail Stores, 6 Outlet Stores, Post Retail Operations, Ecommerce and Marketing Services. Cathy is currently enrolled in Goodwill Industries International Executive Development Program designed for Goodwill senior staff committed to pursuing the role of Goodwill CEO. Cathy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Marylhurst University; Marylhurst, Oregon.
David Leslie is Executive Director of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO). He has more than 25 years of non‐profit management experience including 20 years as the executive director of small and mid‐size community and faith‐based nonprofit organizations such as Austin Habitat for Humanity and Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. His board and community service includes the Oregon Ending Homeless Advisory Committee, National Religious Campaign Against Torture, and National Council of Churches Interfaith Relations Commission. Leslie received his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin and his Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
Laura Mansfield is the CEO of PAGATIM, a creative audio agency based in Portland, Oregon. PAGATIM specializes in analytics, distribution, design and strategy in the digital audio space. Mansfield has been telling stories that change people's lives for more than 15 years. With an award winning background in broadcast journalism, documentary filmmaking, non-profit management and social entrepreneurship, Mansfield has the ability to connect with people and capture their story like no other.
Mary Monnat is President/CEO of LifeWorks NW, an agency that promotes a healthy community by providing quality and culturally responsive mental health and addiction services across the lifespan. She joined LifeWorks NW as a chemical dependency and mental health therapist in 1983 and moved through various management positions before becoming President/CEO in 1998. Mary earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and her Masters in Human Development from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota. She is currently a Board member of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette, Vision Action Network, St. Andrew’s Nativity School and the Women’s Commission on Alcohol and Drug Issues of Oregon. Mary previously served as President of the Oregon Alliance of Children’s Programs. In spring 2009, she received the Portland Business Journal’s Woman Executive of the year for non-profits.
Mary was actively involved as a member of the Governor’s task force to establish the Coordinated Care Organization criteria, and was appointed to the governance board for Health Share of Oregon, the metro area’s largest Coordinated Care Organization.
Jill Nelson is the founder and CEO of Ruby Receptionists, which was founded in 2003. With 135 staff members, Ruby Receptionists serves more than 2,600 small business professionals throughout North America. Nelson’s unique approach to business, “Practicing WOWism,” drives the company’s growth and success and helped secure coveted awards, including back-to-back years in the top three on Fortune Magazine’s Best Small Company to Work for in the U.S. list and six consecutive years as a fastest growing company in Oregon. Dedicated to supporting small business, she has served on the board of Portland’s Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) and a mentor for its Accelerator Program. In 2013, EO awarded Nelson their Entrepreneur of the Year award. In 2010, the Portland Business Journal honored her with an Orchid Award for her service as a business leader.
Kay Toran is the President and CEO of Volunteers of America Oregon (VOA Oregon), Kay Toran provides the overall leadership and strategic direction for the organization. VOA Oregon is a broad-based human services organization providing programs designed to improve the lives of Oregon’s children, families, and seniors. Kay received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Portland and Masters of Social Work degree from Portland State University.
DJ Wilson is president and general manager of the KGW Media Group, a position she has held since 2007. Wilson is currently the president of the Professional Advisory Board for the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications at Washington State University and previously served two terms on the Board of Governors of the WSU Foundation. She is also on the executive committee of the Portland Business Alliance Board, secretary of the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation Board and on the executive committee for the Citizens Crime Commission board. She is a Trustee of the Portland Art Museum, on the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) board, secretary of the Classic Wine Auction Board and serves on the Pioneer Courthouse Square Board based in Portland. In 2012, Wilson was inducted into the Edward R. Murrow Hall of Achievement and was the recipient of the Portland Business Alliance “No Glass Ceiling” female leadership award. Wilson is also a past Portland Business Journal Orchid Award recipient.
