Favorite place on campus: The patio next to the Dean’s Suite in Franz or Christie Hall.
Love going to school in Portland because: It has a really nice balance of living in a big city, but also going to school in a college town.
Favorite food cart: The waffle cart on Lombard. It serves everything in a waffle! What more could you want?
Kombucha or Coffee: COFFEE
Dream job: I would love to own my own advertising agency one day.
Talk about how leadership fits into your University of Portland education: I would say leadership has fit into my UP education because the small classes give us the skills we need to lead teams effectively. I would say learning about leadership alongside my education gives me tools and skills that I will need in the workplace after graduation.
For example, this summer I got the opportunity to work with Kay Toran, the President/CEO of Volunteers of America Oregon. Kay was a wonderful mentor and taught me a lot about being a leader in an organization and the importance of looking at all aspects of the decision making process, not just the bottom line. Kay also taught me about the importance of developing strategic partnerships, especially when working in the nonprofit sector. During my time at VOA I got the opportunity to sit in on meetings including a board meeting. I also got the opportunity to research legislation at the state level and present on how it would affect VOA.
