Helder Sebastiao is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship with the University of Portland’s Pamplin School of Business Administration. Helder was most recently an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of San Diego, where he played a lead role in the School of Business Administration’s initiatives in entrepreneurship. Helder created and directed USD’s entrepreneurship club and business plan competition, and through his outreach efforts he significantly raised the profile of the university in the greater San Diego business community. His research, teaching, consulting/advising, and outreach activities are focused on the areas of entrepreneurship and the commercialization of innovations. He is particularly interested in and has published research on how entrepreneurs influence and shape new / emerging markets. Before earning his PhD at the University of Oregon, Dr. Sebastiao was an entrepreneur and had previously worked as a strategy consultant, director of economic and entrepreneur development programs, marketing and advertising professional, and electrical engineer. His professional affiliations include the Entrepreneurship and Technology and Innovation Management Divisions of the Academy of Management, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Strategic Management Society.
