The most important tip for applying is to spend time thinking about who you are and where you are going in life.  The more clearly defined project will always win the award over the vaguer proposal.  So try to envision yourself in ten years; who will you be and what steps will enable you to become that person?  Dream big but have that dream grounded in the academic preparation you are undertaking at the University of Portland.

The other key tip is to start early.  The best applications go through multiple drafts and revisions and are read by numerous sets of eyes.  So plan ahead and start writing!
