Financial Affairs: Vice President

  Alan P. Timmins was named University of Portland's vice president for financial affairs in August 2011. He is the former president and chief operating officer of AVI BioPharma, Inc.

 Mr. Timmins began working for AVI, a pioneering medical research company, in 1992 and was the company’s first chief financial officer before serving as president and COO from 2000 to 2008. Before his career with AVI he worked as an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a 1981 graduate of the University of Portland, majoring in Accounting and Management, and earned an MBA from Stanford University. In 2009, he was named one of the "Significant 75" alumni of the Pamplin School of Business Administration.

 Mr. Timmins retired from AVI in 2008 and has since been active in the Portland community, serving on the boards of directors at St. Mary’s Academy and at Yamhill Valley Vineyards. Mr. Timmins also volunteered with the University’s Entrepreneurial Scholars program, and taught classes in strategic thinking and financial statement analysis to MBA students at George Fox University.

 The controller's office, including payroll and students accounts, reports to Mr. Timmins, as well as the bookstore.
