Founders Day: Kurt Berning '12
Before finishing his undergraduate studies at UP, senior Kurt Berning, a finance and operations management major, has already co-founded a non-profit organization, Global ADE. Kurt hopes to continue with this non-profit, building it into a large professional grant-giving organization.
Kurt was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and will be doing graduate study in Education and Development in the UK through the program next year. He hopes to use the experiences he learns there to help him develop and direct the work of Global ADE.
Kurt has focused on business at UP, but he also enjoys being able to expand his interests and study outside his discipline through UP’s broad curriculum.
“Oceanography was a breath of fresh air,” Kurt said. “Coach Bob taught me an astonishing amount about a subject that I could have never imagined studying.”
Although Kurt is looking far into the future, he has also enjoyed the numerous opportunities offered to him during his four years at UP.
“I’ve gotten real world experience through business classes, study abroad to Australia, service and learning trips to Kenya, working as an RA, workshop leader, etc.,” Kurt said. “Basically I’ve had numerous leadership opportunities and chances to apply what I’m learning in the real world, and all of those opportunities have prepared me to achieve my goals.”
Kurt Berning will be studying in the UK next year through a Fulbright Scholarship. He hopes to use his studies abroad to develop a non-profit organization he co-founded.
