Founders Day: Sarah Moran '12
Sarah Moran, a senior English and Education major, has been profoundly influenced by the faculty at UP. Sarah has been shaped especially by Dr. Genevieve Brassard and Dr. Peter Thacker, who have educated her not only about English and education but also about her own goals.
“Through Dr. Brassard’s class I have come to a much deeper understanding of who I am, what drives me, and what my passions are,” Sarah said.
Sarah said Dr. Thacker was equally important in helping her understand herself.
“During the last four years, he has never ceased to challenge and push me academically and intellectually,” Sarah said, “and I know I am a better person because of it.”
At Founders Day, Sarah will be presenting two projects that she has worked on with these professors. The first is her English capstone, which focuses on literature by WB Yeats and Roddy Doyle, analyzing their writing from a feminist perspective. Sarah will also present an independent study about John Dewey’s works, which she has been working on with Dr. Thacker.
After graduation, Sarah plans to teach and possibly go to graduate school. The plan, however, is not set in stone, since UP has broadened her interests so much.
“I think UP has done a wonderful job of preparing me for my goals,” Sarah said. “Yet I also think UP has made life a lot more complicated because it has shown me that I am far too passionate about too many issues to settle on just one.”
Throughout her time at UP, Sarah Moran formed relationships with several faculty members who helped her grow both academically and personally. She will present Founders Day projects she worked on with her closest faculty mentors.
