Founders Day: Wendy Herrick '13
Wendy Herrick, a junior nursing student, had the opportunity to work with two other UP students for a month in rural Ghana, where the group helped provide medical aid and relief. Wendy will present her Founders Day project on the outcome and impact of this experience by sharing photographs and stories from her time in Ghana.
“The trip to Ghana has profoundly impacted my life and perspective on the kind of work I would like to do as a nurse,” Wendy said. “I am deeply grateful for the assistance and patience of the faculty who supported the trip.”
Wendy intends to spend more time working in the field of aid and relief, but first she hopes to study nursing at the doctoral level. In the future, she plans on working in primary and acute care pediatrics or family practice.
Along with her trip to Ghana, Wendy was shaped by the nursing program’s well-rounded curriculum. The hands-on experience she had during clinical training helped round out her education and shape her as a nurse and as a person.
“The clinical training has been an invaluable aspect of my time at UP,” Wendy said. “I believe it would be beneficial to have even more clinical hours.”
Wendy Herrick had the opportunity to work in rural Ghana for a month providing medical relief. This changed the way she thought about her education and her future career as a nurse.
