Admitted Student Resources

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Portland Graduate School! The following is a checklist to assist you in the days leading up to your first class as well as a few resources to use throughout your journey. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out to your designated program coordinator or the Graduate School office via email at gradschl@up.edu or by phone 503.943.7107.

Checklist and Resources

  • Confirm Attendance 

    • Intent to Enroll
      • To accept our offer of admission, please log in to the application status page and submit your Reply Form.
    • Deferring Acceptance
      • If you would like to defer your enrollment, you may be able to do so for up to one year from the term you were admitted. Please request a deferral from your designated program coordinator via email and CC the Graduate School (gradschl@up.edu). 
      • Programs that operate in a cohort model consider the group of applicants as a whole and admission to a future term is not guaranteed, due to capacity limitations. If you defer, your application will be considered alongside candidates for the future term. A follow-up interview may be requested, along with an updated resume.
      • After one year, you will be required to submit a new application and supplementary materials. Previously submitted transcripts will be retained. Any new coursework complete since release of the initial admission decision would need to be submitted. Final official degree granting transcripts must also be on record with the Graduate School.
    • Transferring Credits
    • Changing Programs 
      • If you have decided to change graduate programs, please contact both your current program coordinator and the desired program coordinator via email or phone. A Change of Program form will need to be signed and submitted to the Graduate School for processing. 
    • Re-admit 
      • If you have taken a semester or more off from your program, you will be required to be re-admitted to the program. Please contact your designated program coordinator via email or phone and complete the online Application for Re-admission to the Graduate School. Once processed, you will be able to be register for courses and resume your studies. 
  • Log onto PilotsUP

    • PilotsUP (pilots.up.edu) is the University of Portland's information portal that allows you to access a variety of tools including up to date campus announcements, Moodle, and Self Serve. Moodle is used by professors to post syllabi, lecture notes/PowerPoints, and class assignments. Self Serve will give you access to your course schedule, financial aid information, and student account records. 
    • For any technical assistance, please contact the Help Desk via email at help@up.edu or by phone at 503.943.7000. When contacting the Help Desk, be sure to have your username and student ID number ready. 
  • Submit Deposits (if required) and Pay Tuition 

    • Deposits
      • Select programs (Ed.D., MAT, M.Eng, M.BME) require enrollment deposits. A link to the payment portal can be found on your status page. Contact the Graduate School with any questions: gradschl@up.edu.

  • Financial Aid Verification

  • Register for Classes

    • Contact your program coordinator before registering for classes. They will be able to assist you through the process and be sure that you are registered for the proper courses. 
  • Acquire Student ID and Parking Permit from Campus Safety 

    • All students are required to have a student ID card when on campus. This card allows you access to several academic buildings as well as the Beauchamp Recreational and Wellness Center. To obtain this card, you will need to visit the Department of Campus Safety. This office is located at Haggerty Hall Suite 100 and short term parking is available right outside of the building. Parking permits can also be obtained from campus safety and are required Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Purchase Textbooks

    • Textbooks are available through the University of Portland Bookstore, located in the Pilot House. They may also be ordered online. Books are able to be pre-ordered for pickup in store or shipped to your home. For any questions, please contact the bookstore directly at 503.943.7125. 
  • Additional Graduate School Resources

    • Thesis and Dissertation Guidelines
      • Not all programs require a dissertation or thesis, please consult your program director or the bulletin for detailed program requirements. 

    • Graduation Application 
      • Please note that in order to receive a diploma, an application for graduation must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar prior to the anticipated graduation date.

    • Campus Map

    • Clark Library 

      • The library offers a variety of services and resources to on-campus and distance graduate students. The library building is at the heart of the campus community and a popular place for studying, meeting with groups in reservable study rooms, printing/scanning, and checking out equipment from laptops to digital cameras. The library also provides access to comprehensive collections of scholarly materials, both in print and online. A robust Interlibrary Loan service makes it easy to obtain sources from other libraries. Research support is also available in-person or through Zoom, as well as via a live chat service staffed by librarians 24/7.     • Beauchamp Recreation and Wellness Center

      • Opened in August 2015, the 72,000 square foot facility includes a cardio loft, weight training area, three studios for exercise/spin classes, two gymnasiums with three basketball/volleyball courts, a rock wall, suspended track, outdoor pursuits office, and bike shop. Additionally, men's and women's locker rooms with showers and day use lockers are available. Students have access to the center free of charge.     • Career Center

      • Provides services and resources to all students and alumni including career counseling and advising, internship guidance, resume and cover letter review, and mock interviews. For more information, visit the Career Center
    • On Campus Dining Options

      • All food is provided by Bon Appétit, a company who believes in serving only the freshest of food with a focus on sustainable practices. Food is prepared from scratch and in many cases with items found locally. 
      • Pilot House
        • Recently renovated, this space offers not only study and gather space, but also a traditional grill area, grab and go market, and bar for an evening beverage. Each location offers a variety of food and beverage options. For specific menus and location hours, visit Bon Appétit.  
      • The Commons
        • Main dining facility on campus and provides a variety of food options. For specific menu options, visit Bon Appétit
    • Office of Alumni Relations

      • Don't forget that when you graduate, you continue to have perks through our various alumni programs. Visit the Office of Alumni Relations for more details.
    • Health Center
      • The Health and Counseling Center (HCC) offers primary medical care, mental health counseling, and health promotion and education services. Please also be aware of the immunization requirements for incoming students.
      • To confirm your compliance with the University's vaccination policy, please login to the secure patient portal from the Health Center website.
