Health Center: Menactra
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a new quadrivalent conjugate vaccine (Menactra™) for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, W-135. Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection. It can cause meningitis—severe swelling of the brain and spinal cord. It can also lead to sepsis—a dangerous and potentially life-threatening blood infection.
