Health Center: Spiritual Direction
The education of mind and heart
Men and women of faith are aware that God is at work in their lives. Spiritual direction affords them the opportunity to reflect upon and speak about their experience of God with a view towards understanding and possibly deepening the relationship. As an individual tells his or her story, the counselor listens with an ear alert to the presence and the movement of God. Unlike pastoral counseling which may take a brief look at a particular issue touching the inner life, spiritual direction is generally longer-term in nature. With the student’s developing an ongoing relationship with God as its focus, spiritual direction involves review of the past along with some reflection on current experience, all with an eye on the future.
