Testing for Tuberculosis
Testing for Tuberculosis is required for International students and students in the School of Nursing. In most cases this is done with a skin test called the PPD. People who have had a positive ppd in the past should not have the test repeated, but should go to the next step of evaluation. Students with positive ppd’s will be required to have a chest x-ray and a clinical evaluation to distinguish Active Tuberculosis Disease from the much more common and much less concerning Latent Tuberculosis. International students who have had the BCG immunization will still need to follow these evaluation guidelines. The University Health Center can perform ppd skin tests as well as refer out for chest x-rays, perform symptom screens, and prescribe Prophylactic Isoniazid when necessary. These services can also be performed by your regular health care provider.
