Wellness Education and Prevention Program
The University Health Center's Wellness Education and Prevention Program is dedicated to forming the whole person. We empower healthy decision making through education and prevention while fostering a culture that supports overall well being. We think about Wellness holistically including: physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and social components. Our substance abuse and violence prevention programs equip students with information and skills to prevent harms that comprise one's ability to thrive in our community.
Our hope is to support students in becoming actively involved in their own wellness; recognizing the impact health has on personal and academic success, as well as on the community; and to co-create a safe, inclusive campus for everyone.
Physical Wellness encourages regular physical activities, proper nutrition, and health care. This type of wellness discourages dependence on tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
Emotional Wellness is having the ability to acknowledge and accept a wide range of feelings in oneself and others. It is being able to express and manage one's own feelings to develop positive self-esteem while cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors.
Spiritual Wellness is the willingness to seek meaning and purpose in human existence, discovering the deepest longing in our lives, discerning one's understanding of God, and being open to diverse multi-cultural beliefs and backgrounds.
Intellectual wellness is a desire to learn from challenges and experiences. It engages ongoing intellectual growth and creativity.
Social wellness involves fostering balanced relationships with family and friends, healthy sexual behaviors, and recognizing the impact one has on one's community.
