Substance Abuse Prevention Team

Mission

In union with the mission of the University of Portland, the Substance Abuse Prevention Team (SAPT) seeks to promote the development and wellness of the entire person, "whole heart and mind," by means of educating the community on healthy decisions, coordinating campus substance abuse prevention efforts and advising the University administration on substance abuse prevention matters.

Goals

To support formal and informal coordination efforts between the students, student government, University administration, and the community through:

Education

• Increasing community awareness of substance abuse services
• Educating the campus community on the risks associated with substance abuse and providing information on how to make safe and healthy choices
• Collaborating with neighborhood businesses to reduce the instances of underage and/or abusive drinking

Coordination

• Facilitating communication among campus and community resources including Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, Public Safety, Portland Police, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission
• Promoting consistent policy enforcement
• Ensuring University compliance with state and federal law 

Advising

• Offering recommendations for policy modifications
