Holy Cross: In Oregon

The reach of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Oregon isn't limited to the University of Portland. Independently, and through partnerships with student services at the University of Portland, the Congregation of Holy Cross works to address some of Oregon's most pressing social concerns: education, hunger, and urban-rural connections.

Holy Cross Parish
The pastor of Holy Cross Parish, within whose boundaries lies the University of Portland, is Father John Wironen, C.S.C., the first Holy Cross priest to hold this position in many years. The parish includes all of St. John's and much of North Portland. Its school serves students of the first eight grades.

Holy Redeemer Parish
Holy Cross priests staff this parish. University of Portland School of Education students provide tutoring to K-8 students at this local Catholic elementary school and members of the Holy Cross community work with parishioners in the parish's confirmation program.

St. Vincent de Paul Downtown Chapel
Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon, the St Vincent de Paul Downtown Chapel has been serving Portlanders since 1919. Members of the Congregation of Holy Cross serve the parish. Downtown Chapel's ministries include several programs for the hungry and homeless including Brother Andre Café, St. Mary's Food Pantry, and the MacDonald Center which provides emergency services, hospitality, and referrals to Portland's homeless.
