Honors Program: Program Admission
Small classes with rigorous coursework and exceptional intellectual stimulation... A personal faculty mentor... A diverse array of social and cultural experiences… And a chance to be a public intellectual leading the way in changing the world... These are the experiences the University of Portland offers to its most gifted students through the Honors Program. Limited to 30 incoming freshman each year, the program includes honors "core" courses, focused honors work in each student's major, along with special emphasis on study abroad, research, service opportunities, and more. The program includes students from all academic disciplines. Sound like the challenge you're looking for?
All students accepted to the University have the option of applying to the Honors Program. The application can be accessed here or requested from the Honors Program Office after September 4, 2012. Typically students will need to have a high school GPA of 3.8 and at least 1300 on SAT I (combined critical reading and math) with a minimum of 630 critical reading. However, considerations will be made for ambitious students with similar qualifications based on committee evaluation of the application. Admission to the Honors Program occurs only prior to a student’s first year at the University.
