Residence Life: Apply/Cancel Housing
Application Processes
New Students, First Time Freshmen and Transfer Students
All first time freshmen students must live on campus and must complete an online housing application. Transfer students are not required to live on campus; however, those who wish to must also complete an online housing application. First time freshmen students who desire to live off campus must initiate the petition process by e-mailing the Housing Coordinator at gobel@up.edu. Click here to read the 2009-2010 Residency Requirement.
The online housing application must be completed by May 1 to receive priority consideration. While every effort is made to honor hall type and roommate requests, applications are processed by date of application; thus, we may be unable to meet specific requests.

Current Students and Those Returning to Campus Housing
Any student who wants to return to university housing must apply. The online application for traditional residence halls, Haggerty/Tyson, and university owned houses is now closed. Housing selection for returning students occurs using a ranking system. Please note, current off campus students are welcome to apply for on campus housing. If you are currently enrolled at the University of Portland and desire on campus housing, please contact the Office of Residence Life.
Returning Student Housing Information
Summer Housing
Housing is provided on an as available basis to students who are eligible to reside in summer housing. Students must meet one of the following requirements to reside on campus: attending summer session classes, sponsored by an academic department, or working on campus during the summer.
The Office of Residence Life needs to receive your application for housing no later than two weeks before the start of the term for which you request housing.
Release from Contract
Housing Contract Petition
Students may be released from the student housing contract by any one of the following options: (a) withdrawing from school; (b) marriage; (c) graduation; (d) approved study abroad; (e) serious extenuating circumstances beyond the student's control. Students who request to be released from their student housing contract must complete a Housing Contract Petition Form and submit it to the Office of Residence Life, 101 Buckley Center. Appropriate documentation must accompany the petition for it to be considered. Students who are released from their contracts during a semester may be eligible for a refund based on the unused portion of the contract. The housing deposit is non-refundable in this case.
If a student moves out of a residence hall during the school year without an approved contract release or is removed for judicial purposes, housing costs for the year will be charged to his/her account.
