Residence Life: Student Employment

In addition to resident assistant positions, the Office of Residence Life provides employment opportunities for students during the academic year and in the summer. Working for residence life will give students excellent training and experience in leadership, communication skills, problem solving, working with people, and community development.

Summer Conference Assistants play an integral role to the daily management and operations of camps and conferences at the University. They assist with conference preparations, facilities management, peer support, administrative tasks, and guest relations.

Hall Receptionists

Hall Receptionists are often the first people that visitors and new students encounter as they enter a residence hall.  Hall Receptionists can set the tone for a person's whole experience in the hall; therefore, the intangible aspects of the job are welcoming, security, and administration. A Hall Receptionist's attitude and demeanor, ability to relate to all groups of residents, attentiveness to those who enter the building, and enjoyment of the job depend on proficiency in the three areas.  A Hall Receptionist works in the hall in which he/she lives and is paid hourly. 

UP residential students who are currently not employed as Hall Receptionists may apply for the 2013-2014 school year by accessing the Student Leadership website.  New students are eligible to apply for a limited number of Hall Receptionist positions at the start of the 2013-2014 academic year.  Interested new students should contact their Assistant Hall Director for application materials and timeline details.

Hall Receptionist Position Description

Hall Interns

(this position will not be offered for 2013-2014)

Hall Interns are important helping agents to hall directors and other residence life staff members.  A Hall Intern is willing to serve those around them in an effort to make the hall community stronger.  Hall Interns provide a helping/supporting role and are exposed to a wide variety of projects/tasks through their work.  Hall Interns are expected to work no more than 10 hours per week and to coordinate a weekly work schedule with their Hall Director supervisor.  A Hall Intern is compensated the equivalent of 1/2 room for the academic year.  The Hall Intern selection process for the 2012-2013 school year has been completed.
