Human Resources: Orientation and Training
Welcome to the University of Portland! As a new employee, you have a world of opportunities ahead of you working for one of the top ten universities in the West.
On your first day as a University employee, an I-9 must be filled out in the Office of Human Resources. You must bring original, un-expired documentation that establishes employee identity and employment eligibility. Failure to provide the proper documentation will result in immediate termination.
New Employee Orientation is available for new part-time and full-time employees. Please see below for details on required training and upcoming Orientation dates.
New Employee Orientation:
New Employee Orientation includes information on UP's history, values, campus resources, Campus Ministry, Payroll, Information Services, Public Safety and an in-depth overview of employee benefits (for full-time employees). Orientation sessions are typically held twice a month, on Tuesdays, 3rd
floor conference room in Waldschmidt Hall. Click here to view exact

New employees are eligible for health and dental insurance coverage beginning the first of the month following their date of hire. New faculty members will receive this information during their faculty orientation through the Office of the Provost the August before they begin work.New Employee Checklist

Employee Training:All faculty and staff are required to complete a self-administered online Sexual Harassment Education Training. Notification of the program website will be sent to all faculty and staff after their Orientation. For faculty and staff who fail to complete the training within the academic year of initial notice, future salary increases shall be withheld until the training is completed.
Employees are expected to complete at least a 90-day training period. The Office of Public Safety and Physical Plant departments require a 180-day period. During this period either the employer or the employee may terminate such employment without advance notice and with compensation paid up to the date of termination.
When hiring new employees to your department, please plan on sending your new employee to the New Employee Orientation. You will receive an email of the first available session after the new employee's date of hire. If your new employee is not able to attend the session please email email@example.com to reschedule.
