Radio Station Advisor

Responsibilities:
Attend meetings and events as assigned. Advise and assist the radio station, KDUP. Implement training sessions. Assess outcomes of programs and efforts. Monitor budgets and authorize expenditures. Advise Director and other student life staff regarding policy decisions related to student media. Advise student government committees or projects as assigned by the Director. Event coverage and other duties as assigned. This position repots to the Assistant Director for Student Media and the Director of Student Activities.
Specific Tasks for 2009-2010
General:
- Attend weekly Office of Student Activities staff meetings
- Monitor budgets, sign off on expenditures
- Attend, as a non-voting member, the Presidential Advisory Committee on Student Media meetings; coordinate scheduling and submit reports as requested
- Advise Director and other staff on policy decisions related to student media
- Assess outcomes of programs and efforts; write annual report
- Provide event coverage as assigned
KDUP, Campus Radio Station
- Advise general manager, student staff, and volunteer DJs in sound broadcast journalism practices within the context of our Catholic identity and Holy Cross tradition
- Plan recruitment meetings, coordinate student staff selection and evaluation processes
- Monitor grades/academic progress of student staff
- Implement training sessions, retreats, or special events
- Listen to shows for editorial advice and support
- Attend student staff meetings (generally held in evenings)
- Attend promotional events sponsored by the radio station
- Act as a liaison between the University and technical support professionals
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred in journalism/communication or related field. Must value and support the mission of the University as a Catholic university in the Holy Cross tradition. Experience with broadcast studio and other audio equipment required. Skills in facilitation, group process, conflict resolution, time management, and computer skills appropriate to the job (routinely uses Excel, Microsoft Word, PhotoShop, and e-mail).
