Institutional Research: Data and Statistics
Data for U.S. Colleges and Universities:
IPEDS data center: The federal government's National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) offers the ability to download for U.S. colleges and universities. Data files include enrollment, completions, salaries, financial aid and finance. Please contact the IR office if you need assistance in accessing and using these data.
College Navigator : an NCES site for parents and students searching for basic information about individual colleges -- costs, enrollment, degrees and financial aid.
U-CAN: also a college search engine providing data on information for individual institutions, sponsored by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU).
Economic Diversity of Colleges: Financial aid data by institution, including loans, grants, percent of student body receiving Pell grants
OICA Member Profiles: Statistical data and profiles for Oregon private institutions.
Education Trust: Compares graduation rates among institutions and for different subgroups within the institution.
The National Science Foundation (NSF): statistics on science and engineering program enrollment, research, expenditures and support.
Association for Institutional Research (AIR): a comprehensive resource of links to higher education issues, research areas, and policies.
Equity in Athletics site: U.S. Dept of Education sponsored, provides athletic program information for institutions that have intercollegiate athletic programs: participants, coaching staffs and salaries, athletic program revenues and expenses.
NCAA graduation rates: Provides athlete graduation rates at Division I institutions.
National Demographic Data:
The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) has some recent reports of projections for the higher education sector. They also provide an online interactive database to explore projections by state and region of the U.S.
The National Student Clearinghouse conducted a research study, National College Progression Rates, that provides high school-to-college transition rates for graduates of public high schools, by type of high school based on the schools demographic and geographic characteristics.
NCHEMS provides trend data by state for several economic indicators, college access, college affordability, persistence and completion, and higher ed finances.
The federal government, through the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) reports on national data on elementary and secondary public and private schools, as well as enrollment and degrees conferred at postsecondary schools, along with projections to 2021.
The U.S. Census Bureau data set, The 2008-2012 American Community Survey 5-year estimates provide detailed social, economic, demographic, and housing data for areas as small as census tracts. Statistics are broken down by geography, race/ethnicity, age, and income.
National education data gleaned from several NCES sources are consolidated in the NCES Digest of Educational Statistics, while its Fast Facts provide concise statistics and tables and figures for commonly used national data regarding higher education cost, degrees granted, endowments, enrollment, financial aid, popular majors, and surveys of students and faculty.
