International Student Orientation is mandatory for all J-1 and F-1 visa students. This requirement applies to all freshman, transfer, and graduate students. Living in the US prior to attending University of Portland does not exempt you from orientation.

Sessions will include information about visa regulations, U.S. culture, academic expectations in the U.S. and at UP, cultural adjustment, health issues specific to international students, and extra-curricular involvement. Students who are not native speakers of English will take an English writing assessment for a faculty member to read and provide feedback. The confirmed International Orientation schedule will be posted in mid-summer. 

Following International Student Orientation, freshman and transfer students will begin the campus wide Orientation. The schedule for general orientation can be found on Student Activities website.
