International Student Services: I-901 SEVIS Fee
What is the SEVIS fee?
The SEVIS fee is primarily used to maintain, update, and fund the SEVIS database. The SEVIS form I-901 must be completed and presented with your payment receipt at your visa interview.
Who is required to pay this fee?
If you are applying for an F-1 or J-1 visa, you must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee before applying for your visa at the consulate. The I-901 SEVIS fee is $200 for F-1 students and $180 for J-1 students. If you already have a valid F-1 or J-1 visa, but have requested a new initial I-20 because you have been out of the U.S. for more than 5 months, then you need to pay the fee.
Who is not required to pay this fee?
F-2 and J-2 visa applicants are not required to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee.
How and where can I pay this fee?
You can pay this fee online, through Western Union Quick Pay, by check, or money order. We do not recommend paying by check or money order unless you have sufficient time to mail in your payment and wait to receive a receipt.
