Integrated Writing Program: About Us

The Integrated Writing Program, a subset of the English department, was created to address writing needs across the curriculum.  The Writing Center serves the goals of the IWP by providing assistance for writers from all majors.  We employ Writing Assistants from the disciplines of biology, business, chemistry, communication studies, education, English, foreign languages, history, political science, psychology, and philosophy.  We also house Writing Intensive Tutors for the Department of Theology. 

Writing Assistants are nominated by department faculty and undergo a semester of training in composition and rhetoric, tutoring theory, and hands on experience through observing and practicing tutoring sessions.  Throughout their training, Writing Assistants focus on the unique styles, assignments, and requirements of their department, which allows them to provide specialized assistance to their peers. 

The Writing Center is located within the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in Franz Hall, along with math and speech tutoring.  The LRC provides comprehensive educational support for all University students.
