Moreau Center: Service Plunge 2009

The Service Plunge provides an opportunity for first year and transfer students to spend your first days as a UP student in a three-day service-learning experience. You will get to know classmates while working together in small and large groups to serve Portland communities. Volunteer work during the Service Plunge may include nature trail maintenance, food box assembly, community gardening, meal preparation, painting, and a wide variety of behind the scenes tasks that help local agencies serve their clients. The Service Plunge is a time to have fun, meet new people, work hard, and develop leadership skills to serve your new community. The Service Plunge occurs the three days preceding Orientation.

Registration is limited to 100 participants and will be online May 1 (the March date in the enrollment packet was a mistake). Registration closes July 20. Students on the waiting list will be contacted by e-mail if a spot opens up for them. In August, registered students will be sent a packing list, information about airport pick-ups, and details about dropping off your belongings at your residence hall prior to the Service Plunge. (All Plunge participants will stay off-campus during the plunge.)

Important Note: Unfortunately, students registered at UP with the Honors Program or the Ohana pre-Orientation Program may not participate in the Service Plunge because of schedule conflicts. If you are not able to attend, please return the interest card we sent along with your Service Plunge invitation and we will keep you on our mailing list for other opportunities throughout the school year.
