We're baaaaack
Returning to The Bluff this year this fall, as photographer Steve Hambuchen notes here with glee, will be, all told, more than 3,000 students from 35 states and 42 countries. The University student body is an altogether riveting creature, featuring 1,217 Catholics, 35 Baptists, 21 Buddhists, 16 Muslims, 9 Mormons, and 4 Hindus among the 20 faiths represented on campus. Ninety-three percent of the students have jobs to help pay college costs, 80 percent do some volunteer work in the community, 60 percent are female, 60 percent live in the residence halls, 16 percent are minorities, and while most (68 percent) are from Oregon and Washington, as has been the story here for 103 years, the percentage of students from other states in the American West has nearly doubled in the past decade, to 26 percent this year. Most popular majors, in order: business, engineering, nursing, education, biology, and psychology.
