Nicaragoing

Fifteen students, two professors, two priests, and the startlingly energetic Jenna Padbury of the volunteer services office spent two weeks this summer in Nicaragua, where they lived and worked with coffee farmers and pondered land rights and free trade and indigenous people and non-governmental agencies and environmental stewardship and biodiversity and labor and human rights and social justice and Christ’s wild idea at work, and then came home. Some of their remarks: We were humbled, I felt I had fallen off the face of the earth as I know it, We were shocked to spirituality, The heat was exhausting, There were huge bugs by the pit toilet, The laughter of the children!, Everyone was sick at least once and homesick twice, Professor Gallegos’ pink swimming shorts!, and It was the most amazing and unexpected experience I ever had. To which we say Amen.
