Labors of love
Some 1,500 of the University’s 3,000 students will haul their gear and dreams into eight residence halls in late August – among them more than 700 freshmen, the “yield” of the largest applicant pool in University history. Move-In Day is annually chaotic, nerve-wracking, funny, crowded, hot, and the one day every year when we notice that mothers are the ones who have maps and ask directions, students are the ones issuing instructions as to where the music and computing machinery go, and the poor fathers are the ones staggering under couches and trying to untangle wires and such. We have a soft place in our heart for the dads. Happy Fathers’ Day.
