Professor Arnold Rustin, M.D.

Bio 492: Medical School
Professor Arnold Rustin, M.D.

Perhaps the most dapper teacher on campus this fall is the eminent urologist and photographer Doctor Rustin, whose popular course in the medical profession and how to achieve admission to medical school fills up in a heartbeat. His medical expertise is legion — member of the Oregon State Board of Examiners, president of the state’s urological society, hospital chief of staff, etc. — but his driving urge to help more Oregonians enter medicine, his genial diligence, his incredible contacts (more than fifty doctors talk to and visit with his students), and his startling creativity (he invented a course in essay writing for graduate school admission) have made him a much-admired figure on The Bluff. “We teach more who we are than what we know,” says former Arts & Sciences dean Marlene Moore, now the University’s Father Joe Powers Professor, “and Arnold is a vibrant, delightful, unflinchingly honest example of teaching, faith, and service. A remarkable man.”
