Rejoining the United States Navy as a chaplain for his third tour, at age 59: Father Bill Dorwart, C.S.C., the University’s campus ministry director. "I feel compelled to help the young sailors in harm’s way," he says, in his unbelievably gentle way. "Bill co-founded the student Faith and Leadership House, led the campus response to the Indian Ocean tsunami, led students to Nicaragua, spent summers saying Mass in the Alaskan outback, led the University’s celebrations of Basil Moreau’s beatification, created an array of ministry programs for students of every faith, and he counseled more people than you could count. He opened his heart and let God’s love pour through it," says health ­center director Paul Myers. Amen to that.
