UP Facebook page ranked third in the nation among peer colleges and universities

Varsity Outreach assessed university Facebook pages using a formula that gives engagement scores to posts based on the number of likes, shares and comments received. University of Portland placed third in a category that includes universities such as Villanova, Santa Clara, Wake Forest, Rice, Dartmouth, Loyola Marymount and Portland State.
The UP page also ranked 16th in the nation overall among all 627 college and university pages regardless of size classification.
The UP Facebook page currently has more than 12,000 followers after gaining nearly 3,500 new followers in 2012. Popular posts and initiatives from 2012 included the Proud to Be a Pilot campaign; celebrating the heroics of Pilot legends Christine Sinclair, Megan Rapinoe, and Sophie Schmidt during the London Olympics; welcome signs for freshmen orientation; Purple Friday; summer and fall fashion shoots; announcing a May 2013 visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama; and the release of TV commercials featuring UP student-athletes Kendall Johnson, Jared Bassett, Sarah Bridges, Steven Evans, and Korey Thieleke.
The University’s Facebook page is operated by the office of marketing and communications, which also oversees UP’s social media efforts on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
