Recreational Services: Team Rec Concept
Working for Recreational Services is a fun and rewarding job. Our programs are a positive force on the University of Portland campus and contribute to the mental and physical well-being of students, faculty, and staff. As a member of the Rec Services team, you have a very important role in the success of the Program. You interact with the UP community, students, faculty and staff, who are our “customers”. You help them get the most out of our programs, which helps our UP community to be fit, active, and social.
The mission of the Recreational Services program is to provide high-quality, diverse recreational opportunities to the UP community. No one person can accomplish this. Not a front desk worker, not a lifeguard, not a bike mechanic, not a sports official, a trainer, an OPP trip leader, not the Director, not the Housekeeper. But each one of us is critical to the success of the Program. With all of us working together, we can put together a great program.
Employees are encouraged to do everything possible to help provide a great Recreational Services program to our university. Your interactions with fellow students, faculty, staff, alumni, recruits, visitors can have a lasting impact. Being friendly and helpful at all times is a great start to making our program better. Providing excellent customer service is your daily responsibility.
How to Make Our Program Great
We put a product out there for the UP community. Recreational Services. What does “Recreational Services” include? Alot! And, it’s constantly changing as we strive to improve. If we stand still, our program will get stagnant. It is important that you know about our offerings so that you can help refer our users to programs that they may like. You probably have some great ideas that will benefit the Program too. Please write these down and share them. This is a valuable part of improving our program.
Here’s a quick list of some of our offerings:
Free weights, cardio vascular machines, fitness classes such as step aerobics, hip hop, ab workouts, yoga, taekwon do, pilates, jazz, swing dance, aquatics, intramural sports, outdoor pursuits, bike shop, and the camping center. From the competitive athlete to the timid, yet curious, freshman who hasn’t tried much, we can provide a relief from the studies, a social opportunity, a method to stay fit, and the additional multitude of benefits from our programs. We’ve got the fun stuff. That’s what’s so cool about working for us!
