Recreational Services: Job Descriptions

Bike Shop Mechanic I & II
Maintain and repair departmental bikes, repair student and staff bikes as needed, maintain inventory, check out bikes and camping equipment, call users of late equipment, notify director of recreational services of lost or damaged equipment.
Camping Center
Check out camping equipment and bikes according to recreational services policies and procedures, maintain and repair equipment, call users of late equipment, notify director of recreational services of lost or damaged equipment.
Fitness Instructor
Teach fitness classes including aerobics, yoga, tae kwon do, etc., in conformance with current fitness standards.
Front Desk Attendant
Staff facility control area, check I.D. and check out equipment, provide customer service.
Head Lifeguard
Schedule lifeguards to cover all shifts, design, schedule and conduct in-service training, stock first-aid kits in Howard Hall, evaluate and maintain safety of equipment and pool area.
Lifeguard
Maintain safety in pool area, constantly scan pool when participants are swimming, maintain attendance counts, alert head lifeguard of unsafe conditions, respond quickly to emergencies and/or incidents.
Intramural Sports Official I & II
Officiate intramural sports to maintain safe and fun environment, transport needed equipment to game site, set-up and take down game site.
Intramural Supervisor
Oversee game site, supervise and give feedback to officials.
Maintenance Assistant
The person who serves in this position will be responsible for cleaning high-use areas of the recreation center, Howard Hall as well as projects as assigned by the Director of Recreational Services.Tasks include:
- General pick-up and cleaning throughout facility
- Pick up magazines, trash, lost & found and recyclables
- Hose down shower areas
- Dust mop gymnasium floor
- Clean basketball backboards
- Wipe down benches in lockerooms
- Clean windows & mirrors
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Recreational Services
Marketing Assistant
Prepare promotional and advertising materials for recreational services including developing e-mail lists for users to publicize upcoming events, preparing Beacon ads and media releases, speak to groups about rec. services.
Office Assistant
Provide clerical support to the director of recreational services.
Student Coordinator: Intramural Sports
10-12 hours per week. Organize and conduct intramural leagues including training officials, leading meetings, schedule officials and leagues, handle disputes, evaluate officials.
Student Coordinator: Outdoor Pursuits
8-10 hours per week. Oversee outdoor pursuits program, work with student leaders to develop semester trip schedule, student work schedules, policies and procedures for equipment checkout. Maintain safety standards for trips and van transportation, inventory of equipment.
Trip Leader Outdoor Pursuits
- Research and plan trip and reserve necessary equipment, develop and conduct pre-trip meeting, purchase food for trip, conduct team building exercises and lead trip in safe, educational manner, facilitate rescue and evacuation procedures.

Provide information on hikes, bike rides,
etc., maintain inventory, check out snowshoes, bikes and camping
equipment, call users of late equipment, notify director of recreational
services of lost or damaged equipment.
Weight Room Assistant
Encourage weight room users to use equipment properly, return items to proper locations, monitor and encourage safe practices, clean and maintain items as needed, offer training suggestions and clinics as scheduled, other duties as assigned.
Weight Room Trainer
Set up routines with weight room users, maintain training certification, conduct special clinics and events to encourage safe weight room practices.
