What can I do if I think my partner is abusive?
Talk to someone. You can start by talking to a SAFE advocate (503-943-SAFE), call Public Safety 24-hour line (503-943-4444), or talk to a counselor at the Health Center (503-943-7134). Your concerns can be kept confidential/ anonymous.
What can I do if my friend is in an abusive relationship?
Get support for yourself so that you can be there for your friend. You can start by talking to a SAFE advocate (503-943-SAFE). It is important to refrain from talking bad about the abusive partner so that your friend does not feel like s/he has to defend him/her.
Make it about your friend, that you worry about them and that they do not deserve to be treated that way.
If the crime just occurred or you need immediate medical or police assistance, call 911. If not, call the police department in the area that the crime happened in. If it happened in Portland you can call Portland Police (503-823-3333) or Public Safety 24-hour line (503-943-4444), to make a police report.

How can I report assault to the University?
UP has a student code of conduct that takes domestic violence seriously (University Policies and Standards). If you were assaulted by a student on campus or you were assaulted off campus and therefore feel threatened on campus, you may file a complaint with either Public Safety 24-hour line (503-943-4444) or the Judicial Coordinator (503-943-7205).
What do I do if I have a restraining order against someone at UP?
It is important that you let Public Safety (503-943-4444) know that you have a restraining order.
Bring a copy of the restraining order and a photo of the person (if available) to their office. If the
respondent (the person the restraining order is against) is in violation of the restraining order by being on campus or being in classes with you, the University will uphold University policy and Residence Life tenets regarding violations of law. (See University Policies and Standards)

How can I protect myself and help someone else?
Before you go out:
- Make a plan before going out (set personal limits on drinks and sexual activity)
- Buddy system (never leave without your buddy)
- Be aware of the Danger Signs - Power and Control Wheel
- Acknowledging that you are at risk and knowing that most perpetrators of alcohol and other drug facilitated sexual assault are friends or acquaintances, allows you to make decisions to reduce your risk and that of your friends
- Share information about substance-related rape with friends and talk about ways to look out for each other when you are at parties and social events
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Do not leave beverages unattended
- Pour and open your own drinks or watch them being made by the bartender
- Carefully monitor your intake of alcohol and drugs
- Ask a friend to keep an eye on you and do the same for him or her. Anyone appearing disproportionately drunk in relation to the amount of alcohol they have consumed may be in danger
- Don't be afraid to say 'no'
