University of Portland will host a screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary “Sun Come Up,” 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Bauccio Commons on campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The screening will be held nationwide by the Catholic Coalition of Climate Change as part of a national climate change education event. The University screening, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Molter and McNerney-Hanson Chairs, the Environmental Science department, and the Moreau Center for Service and Leadership
The documentary depicts some of the world’s first “forced climate migrants,” inhabitants of the Carteret Islands just north of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. After the screening, there will be a facilitated discussion about the film and steps the viewers can take to respond to the unfolding climate change.
