UP to host fast and interfaith prayer service for peace in Syria on Saturday, September 7 at 5 p.m.

In response to Pope Francis’ call for all people of good will to fast and pray for peace in Syria on Saturday, September 7, the University of Portland is hosting an interfaith prayer service at 5 p.m. on campus in the Chapel of Chris the Teacher, and is encouraging the campus community to fast.

“I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to those brothers and sisters who do not believe: peace is a good which overcomes every barrier, because it belongs to all of humanity!” said Pope Francis in a statement on Sunday. “I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world.”

The fast and prayer service, organized by the University’s Campus Ministry office, is free to attend and open to the public.

The University of Portland is an independently governed Catholic university guided by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
