University of Portland Advent concert to be held 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in St. Mary’s Cathedral

The University of Portland will celebrate the Advent season with a concert of festive and sacred music that have been a holiday tradition since 1973. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in St. Mary’s Cathedral the Immaculate Conception, 1716 NW Davis Street.

The concert is free, with tickets becoming available November 1. Please call the Performing & Fine Arts department at 503-943-7228 for tickets.

The Advent concert is dedicated to selections from Handel’s Messiah, performed by the University Singers and the Orchestra.

The University Singers comprise student musicians selected by audition from across the University regardless of major. The Singers' 1997 recording, Christmas at the University of Portland, has now sold more than 3,000 copies and is seasonally heard each year in nationwide broadcasts in the U.S. and Ireland - and on Portland’s classical music station.
