Construction detours are in place in and around University of Portland campus

Construction on both the University of Portland’s Main Entry and Beauchamp Recreation and Wellness Center will be causing traffic detours and pedestrian access route changes. The Recreation Center fencing is up and delineates accessible sidewalks skirting the construction site. Access to and from University Village will be on the Southwest side of Strong Street and the Northeast side of Warren Street.

Parking will be open around the construction site on both Strong and Warren, but eliminated on Van Houten between Strong and Warren. Motorists are encouraged to take caution and reduce speeds to 20 miles per hour on Portsmouth in front of the Recreation Center due to truck traffic on an offsite. The construction will extend through the 2014-15 academic year and be complete June 2015. The traffic measures will be in place for the duration of the project.

The Main Entry construction commenced on June 1 and will be completed in late August. Traffic will be reduced to entry only, exiting through the main lot and Portsmouth or via the Kenna exit to Willamette Boulevard.

Pedestrian access will be on the Northwest side of the Main Entry or Southeast side of Shipstad. The Main Entry will be open to incoming traffic at all times. There may be gravel road conditions during construction, and motorists should keep speeds to 10-15 miles per hour through the area. Sidewalk and road closure signs will be set up to guide those on and around campus.

A map is available in the Facilities Planning and Construction page at www.up.edu/facilitiesplanning. Motorists are asked to have patience with construction workers. Safety is a major priority. If you have questions please call Facilities Planning and Construction at 503-943-8874.
