Student Accounts: Student Records Release
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (
FERPA) prohibits the release of any information concerning a student other than the student's name, address, phone number, graduation date, degree(s) awarded and major to anyone, including a parent. At the university level, parents do not have right to access or inspect their son or daughter's education records, unless the student is a dependent as defined in section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Student account information can only be released to the student, regardless of who has remitted payment for that account (e.g., parent or grandparent), unless the student has filed a
Student Records Release form
. Before completing this form, you must read the Students Rights and Responsibilities section of your Student Handbook and/or the University Bulletin.
The Student Records Release form allows students to designate who may receive information regarding their academic, student conduct, student account, and/or financial aid records. The Student Accounts office cannot release information about the content, balance, or the status of a student’s account to anyone, including parents, agencies, or other professionals or individuals unless the Student Records Release form is submitted.
