Studies Abroad: Costa Rica Summer
Students must complete Spanish 201 & 202 before the program is scheduled to begin. In Costa Rica, students will take SPN 307 Intensive Advanced Composition and Conversation, a six-credit upper-division Spanish course equivalent to SPN 301 and 302, taught by Dr. Maria Echenique and a Costa Rican instructor. All instruction will be in Spanish. Upon completion of this program, students may proceed to any other upper division class in Spanish at the home campus.
The Experience:
Students will have the opportunity to enhance Spanish skills in the classroom and with a homestay family. Students will also learn about the cultures of Costa Rica and other Central American countries through readings and discussions in class, and program excursions that will explore the country of Costa Rica. All program activities will be done in Spanish.
Living Quarters:
Students will live with a Costa Rican family to become fully immersed in the culture and language of Costa Rica. Homestays provide students with the opportunity to use their Spanish language skills and apply them to a home setting.
Date and Cost:
This program begins Tuesday,June 25, 2013. Students must depart by 10 am on the final day, Thursday, August 1, 2013. The cost of the Costa Rica summer program is $4,800. The cost includes tuition for six credit hours, housing, most meals, excursions, and health insurance. The cost does not include airfare.
