Studies Abroad: Salzburg Engineering
Students choose two of the following courses:
· HST 392 The Cold War in Europe 1945-1989 - Dr. Mark Eifler
No prerequisite
· PHL 220 Ethics - Dr. Thompson Faller
Prerequisite: PHL 150
· EGR 491 Engineering Technology and Analysis - Dr. Mark Kennedy (Director)
Prerequisite: MTH 202
Cost:
The cost of the program is $4,800 and includes tuition for six credit hours, housing, some excursions, admissions, and insurance. Students will have access to large kitchen facilities at the Salzburg center. The cost does not include food or airfare.
Program Dates:
This program begins at 6 pm on Wednesday,May 15, 2013. Students must depart by 10 am on Friday, June 21, 2013.
The Experience:
Students will spend five weeks in a setting which allows a first-hand look at Austrian culture and European engineering facilities while fulfilling required courses. The program typically includes excursions to various parts of Austria and Germany, including Munich, Vienna, Lake Fuschl, Hallstatt, and the Mauthausen concentration camp. Engineering related field trips will likely include a BMW auto plant, Deutsches Museum of Science and Technology, and the Kaprun Dam.
Living Quarters:
Students will stay in the University of Portland Center in Salzburg, only a fifteen-minute walk from the city center and ten minutes from the central railway station. The center has double rooms with private baths, as well as kitchen and laundry facilities. Classrooms, library, and computer facilities are also available at the center.
