Studies Abroad: Salzburg Year - Fall Tour
|
Taking students on a whirlwind journey through Austria, Germany, and France, the fall tour is one of the highlights of the Salzburg program. Usually taking place in early November, students will travel by bus for about a week and view works of art and architecture that they have studied in their Fine Arts class. The Fine Arts professor will often accompany students on this tour to further enrich their experience.

Common Fall Tour Destinations
-
Paris: One of the most prominent cities in Europe, the capital of France hosts several sites that tie in closely with the Fine Arts program. Students will usually visit a variety of museums, including the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin, and the Musée Marmottan, which house some of the most widely recognizable pieces in the world. Additionally, the Paris excursions often include trips to the Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte Chapelle (the gothic chapel of King Louis IX), as well as viewing a performance at the Opera Garnier. Students are able to see the city’s major landmarks (the Eiffel Tower, Pont Neuf, Arc de Triomphe, etc.) via a bus and/or boat tour or during their allotted free time.
-
Versailles: Built by King Louis XIV, this stunning chateau allows a glimpse of the wealth and luxury of France’s Old Regime. Students can see the famous Hall of Mirrors and explore the vast gardens, which include Marie Antoinette’s fantasy peasant village, the Hameau, as well as the Grand and Petit Trianons.
Other cities that may serve as brief afternoon visits or overnight rests include cities in eastern France and southern Germany, such as Ulm (Germany), Metz (France), Strasbourg (France), and Reims (France).
